Top Five Best Coffee Shops in Ocean City NJ.
Though it only spans a little under 8 miles, the island of Ocean City is jam packed with dining and shopping options, making it difficult to decide which ones to fully experience over the course of one’s visiting week. While Ocean City is a dry town, it is home to some of the best brews in South Jersey – the caffeinated kind. With an array of unique coffee bars and bistros, you are never too far from a place to visit for a perky pour.
These five shops are sure to satisfy with delicious drinks and authentic ambiance – each one with its own personality – and are definitely worth checking out during your stay. Here are the top five best coffee shops in Ocean City NJ.
Ocean City Coffee Company.
928 Boardwalk & 917 Asbury Avenue
With three locations, one in the heart of downtown and two on the boardwalk, the Ocean City Coffee Company is a perfect stop to grab some joe on the go to accompany a walk down Asbury or along the beach. This coffee shop had to make the list of the top 5 best coffee shops in Ocean City NJ. Strolling down the boards it is hard to pass by the alluring aroma without popping in for one of the eight distinct and delicious freshly brewed flavors, rotating daily.
The store is lined with burlap bags of beans soon to be ‘roasted at the beach’ or packaged and purchased by the pound. While there are a couple of tables at the boardwalk location, the shop on Asbury is better suited for hanging in with oversized couches and tables perfect for taking a break from shopping. The company also offers a wide variety of gourmet teas and pastry bites. It’s hard to match OCCC’s extensive selection and exceptional quality.
Open Daily 7:00am – 6:00pm
Jon & Patty’s Coffee Bar and Bistro
637 Asbury Avenue
Owned and operated by the Talese family since 2008, Jon & Patty’s has been a beloved favorite for locals and visitors alike. The delightful eatery welcomes guests with cheerful reds and yellows, fresh flowers on each table, walls adorned with original artwork by local artists, and an always-smiling staff. J&P’s coffee bar offers a warm ambiance and delicious hot drinks, all served in colorful over-sized mugs, to accompany its inspired food menu. From frozen to piping hot, the bistro has a caffeinated creation to make every aficionado perk up, featuring daily drink specials, teas and some unique juice blends for those looking to detox.
Sit next to the window draped with a twinkling string of lights or, in warmer months, outside under a boutique umbrella and take in Asbury’s atmosphere as you sip on something scrumptious. Expected to reopen Feb. 12th, with construction on the exciting addition of the second floor lasting through March.

Starbucks
1061 Asbury Avenue
Chain establishments are not choice for me when looking to enjoy some ambience and immerse myself in a venue’s character, however OC’s Starbucks has given me reason to rethink my prejudices. Perhaps the most ornate Starbucks I have ever been to, this spacious java joint’s decor of driftwood and neutrals is at once homey and sophisticated. A fireplace sits amidst a sand-washed wood wall adorned with black and white photos of years past on the boardwalk and beaches, surrounded by comfortable leather couches and hemp rope-wrapped tables.
The prices are what you’d expect from the brand but the drinks are good and the space is ideal for writing, reading, or working on your laptop using the free WiFi.
Sunday – Friday: 6:30am-8pm
Saturday: 6:30am-9:00pm
Positively 4th Street Cafe
400 Atlantic Avenue
Situated on the corner of 4th and Atlantic, this quaint cafe houses the most authentic coffee house vibe in town. Coffee mugs hang overhead, beads and spoons laced along the windows, chalkboard menus and a friendly face behind the counter encasing a delectable array of fresh baked treats. You can find cream and sugar perched on a vintage surfboard before finding a comfy seat at one of the mosaic tabletops. There’s an old bookcase filled with a collection of good reads to choose from as you sit and sip on your coffee or grab a round table to gather with friends.
Serving both hot and cold espresso drinks, Positively 4th uses only organic, fair trade coffee to bring you the best brew possible. Take a cup to go for a short walk up to the boardwalk after breakfast or lunch, offered year round. In the summertime dinner and sidewalk seating is available.
Monday – Saturday: 6:30am – 3:00pm
Sunday: 6:30am – 1:00pm
Barefoot Market
214 West Avenue
With its fern green façade and salvaged wood signage, Barefoot Market feels instantly inviting as you walk up the steps and onto the pleasant porch lined with string lights. Upon entering, the bright yellows, array of mismatched stools and painted pinstripes perfectly fit the eclectic energy of the market.
Each cup of coffee is made to order at the pour over bar, prepared from bean to brew on the spot and pairs wonderfully with Barefoot’s famous scones (I recommend the butterscotch). Overlook Bay Avenue with a seat on the porch, inside at one of the mosaic tile tabletops or peruse the showcase of artwork displayed around the shop along with locally handmade soaps, jewelry, and other crafted novelties.
Also available are sandwiches on daily-baked fresh bread, pastries, pies, and some essential grocery options like milk, bacon and cheese. Stop in for one of the freshest, richest cups of coffee on the island and feel good about it as mostly everything you purchase will support a local business.
Tuesday – Saturday: 7:00am – 3:00pm
Sunday: 7:00am – 1:00pm
Closed Monday
